Why Don’t We Have Iron Boards Like This!

Fri, 05/18/2012 - 15:02

E-Board is super classy and I love it! The ironing board has five components that adhere and adapt to the garment that you are ironing. A controlling green knob allows you to split the board up for easy ironing of pants and wings out the sides for sleeves. Skirts, coats, trousers, shirts or any other thang, basically the board makes the mundane chore of ironing a whole lot easy. Clever integration of a hanger-stand and iron-stand, adds to the perks. Love!

E-Board is a 2012 iF Design Talents entry.

Natural Water Flow

Fri, 05/18/2012 - 08:20

PURE is designed as an elegant touch-sensitive leaf faucet that flows out the exact amount of water you need, thus eliminating wastage. As Dax explains, “A sensitive interaction with the product accurately controls the amount of water requested, reducing unwanted overflow and the related waste of drinkable water.” Basically the design works with hand manipulation and sensor interpretations, making the user experience quite intuitive. Did I hear someone scream GERMS?!

Mobilysis is a thoughtful and innovative system that aims to ease the lifestyle of patients by making it possible to cleanse the blood while going about their daily routine rather than spend several hours at the hospital each week. The device attaches to the waist and is compact enough that clothes can fit over it. Controls are at the user’s fingertips through a smartphone app and hard buttons located on the device itself.

Modern Confessions

Fri, 05/18/2012 - 08:01

Confession is a clever statement on modern interpersonal communication and the sometimes hard-to-find privacy in the late trend of open spaces found in contemporary architecture. This new furniture archetype aims to create a secluded space for private conversation, quiet environment for reading, or somewhere to indulge in a little gossip! Above all else, it’s a reminder of how our man-made environments can really shape the way we interact.

This unique iPhone case is pure genius! The versatile IdoStand uses 2 seamlessly integrated arms that make it possible to prop your phone up in portrait or landscape modes at the perfect angle for recording video or Facetiming. Best of all, the design is no bigger than than other cases and, if nothing else, actually compliments the beauty of the iPhone itself!

Cultivate a Green Habit

Thu, 05/17/2012 - 09:41

There is no doubt that visual representation has a greater impact than some random numbers. So if I can see how much extra power my sub-standard air conditioner is consuming in comparison to a graded one, I’m more inclined to get it changed or restrict its usage. Likewise with other appliances and gadgets. Eco,Pulse is a great visual tool that educates you on your power consumptions and energy wastages. The goal is to help you reduce your carbon footprint and build energy efficient home. Something we should all consider, given our depleting resources.

Eco-pulse works by visualizing the electromagnetic fields as pulses on its display and thus allows the discovery of power usage that would otherwise remain hidden to consumers. It is intuitive as it amplifies the electronic pulse of appliances like a stethoscope. When appliances are in standby mode, Eco-pulse also enables the detection of vampire power that is being wasted. The pulse reading appears in different colors and amplitudes to indicate the level of power usage or wastage. The user can record the data by pressing on the capture button located on its right side. Upon capturing all the necessary power consumption data, the user can detach the strap and plug Eco-pulse into a computer to transfer the data into the Eco-pulse software. Here, the Eco-pulse system helps the user to pinpoint the main sources of power usage and wastage and thus allows him to take remedial action easily.

Francesco Faccin’s Traverso table exaggerates the primary supporting beam as both a functional part of the structure and an aesthetic detail. The unique ash wood construction and color variations emphasize the central, robust beam to create a sense of balance and strength. Sure to be a timeless piece for both the classic craftsman and modern loft alike.

Free of excess, the stripped-down LOOP lamp offers a simple and unique way of directing light where you want it to go. Concrete Beauty

Wed, 05/16/2012 - 18:08

Situation on the west coast of the Baltic island of Öland, Villa Widlund stands out as a solid white, geometric, concrete landmark in perfect contrast with a backdrop of picturesque ocean views and serene beach landscapes. Construction and furnishings are minimal so that each room highlights the windows and spectacular outdoor views. Everything about this modern beach villa is dreamy – I’d have trouble deciding to be in or out!

Audio Globe

Wed, 05/16/2012 - 09:11

Designed to rotate on a 23.4 degree slanted axis like the globe, DORA CD Player grabs your attention with its clever gimmick design. This could have been another drab rectangular gadget, meant to seduce you with textures and colors, but thankfully it isn’t! The CD loads into the back panel, while the speakers are placed in the front. I love the catchy remote that accompanies this player; spin my world right round, like a record…..

Yes, Another Socket

Wed, 05/16/2012 - 09:01

Search for “Socket” on Yanko Design and you will be hit by countless designs, making you wonder why is this component so important in our lives. If it’s not the socket per-se, then it’s the plugs that most designers are worried about. Adding to the list is the Live Socket, an iteration that takes away the bother of pulling the plug once we are done with an appliance. Child safe and energy friendly, this design is clever and practical too!

Live Socket is a 2012 iF Design Talents entry.

Purrrrfect Jag

Wed, 05/16/2012 - 08:01

Inspired by the vintage Jag e-type of the 1960s, the Jaguar XKX concept finds a modern balance between pure muscle and supreme elegance. The design returns to the total smoothness of the brand’s original models with soft, fluid lines that dip and curve into one another like liquid. Vintage inspiration combined with highly advanced tech (I.E. – an outer skin that recharges the battery) make this one fierce kitty.

With a much smaller and cooler power plant than conventional models, the aerodynamics were conceived in a new innovative way. The side deflector intakes of the front are broader so a much less air gets stuck by the engine- instead, it flows behind the front wheels, moving behind them and sliding along the doors before taking another shortcut through the rear wheels and out from the large rear openings. This greatly reduces the total flowing path and subsequently drag.

The super modern-looking Slide Lamp is constructed from a single piece of machine-hallowed hardwood mounted on a cast aluminum base. The unorthodox construction also makes for very unique functionality- simply raise or lower the intuitive side lever to turn it on or off, or adjust the brightness!

The Visible Lifesaver

Tue, 05/15/2012 - 10:35

Life Light is perfectly visible in low light and night, making it an efficient and practical lifesaver and emergency buoy by the sea. The upside is that it relies on renewable energy sources to keep the LEDs working at night. It even features an LED water battery. So far the flipside are none, except that it’s still a concept. What do you say?

Life Light is a 2012 iF Design Talents winner.

iPhone Case That Makes Sense

Tue, 05/15/2012 - 10:22

All said and done, the Ö Case makes better sense as an iPhone Case than any others that I have seen. Two things that make this concept win its brownie points: A screen-cleaning slider that cleans those oily finger marks off the screen and a special nook to wind and store your earphones. Simple design, creative solution and a sleek outcome!

Cutie Pod

Tue, 05/15/2012 - 08:01

This Segway style vehicle takes the 2-wheeler a step further in the form of a multifunctional transportation pod built for 2. Balanced on a movable joint arm, the Ayhanz Segway can be lowered for speed, linked with other vehicles of its type & even move like a roller coaster hanging from rails! Balancing futurism with realistic functionality, the design takes into account the space saving requirements we can expect in the future, & is a keen look at what urban transportation might really look & behave like.

It always happens when you least expect it – you take a drink of your morning coffee and before you know it, it’s too hot… and too late. HATES IT!  The Drinking Timing glass by Hsu Sean is a thoughtful design that uses thermo-chromic material to provide a visual indication of the temperature of your drink.
